日本美の象徴「FUJIYAMA」をテーマに描く、舞踊「八合目」と、殺陣と舞踊のコラボレーション作品「日本武尊剣勇功（ヤマトタケルツルギノイサオシ）」は、本公演でしか観ることの出来ない新作舞踊。藤間勘十郎をはじめとする豪華キャスト陣で上演します。また、柳家花緑による新春落語を、お正月風情いっぱいにお届けします。東海道中膝栗毛の弥次さんと喜多さんが、わかりやすく公演をナビゲート。劇場内には、獅子舞ほかお正月体験コーナーも設置。

The Beauty of Japan and a Feast of Traditional Performing Arts: FUJIYAMA

The only chance to experience the new dance pieces, one entitled “Hachigome (Eighth station of the mountain)” based on one of the symbols of Japanese beauty, Mt. Fuji (FUJIYAMA), and a traditional dance/sword fight combination entitled “Yamato Takeru Tsurugi no Isaoshi”. Kanjuro FUJIMA introduces a star-studded cast for this performance, while Karoku YANAGIYA will present a new Rakugo (tradition of comic storytelling) performance on the theme of the New Year. Yaji and Kita, characters from the 19th century comic novel Tokai Dochu Hizakurige, present the show in a way that makes it easy to understand. There will be an ‘experience area’ in the theatre, featuring lion dance and other New Year traditions.

葭町芸者の由緒や日本橋人形町の風物を詠み込んだ、普段は見られぬ貴重な踊りです。

Very rare chance to see the 20 dancers ( including real Geisha girl ) perform expressing the history of Geisha with the scenery and customs of Nihonbashi Ningyocho, old down town Tokyo.

第三部: 落語「初天神（はつてんじん）」
ACT 1.3 :: RAKUGO ［Hatsutenjin］

年の初めのお祭りで、息子のおねだりに振り回される父だったが･･･
親子の情を、おもしろ、おかしく誘う、古典落語の名作です。

One of the classical Rakugo stories；heartwarming comedy of little boy and his dad at the Tenjin’s fair in the new year.

相模の国造の火攻めの中、天叢雲剣（アメノムラクモノツルギ）と火打ち石で、危難を逃れ吉備武彦と共に敵を返り討つ日本武尊伝説の一説を、日本舞踊と殺陣のコラボレーションでお贈りする新作エンターテインメント舞踊。

Fantastic collaboration of traditional dance and sword fight telling about the legend of Yamatotakeru, the hero in ancient Japan and the enshrined deity. Too good to miss !

お正月体験コーナー

一年の節目として、「お正月」は、どんなに時代が変わっても、親から子へと受け継がれ、日本の年中行事の中でも最も大切にされてきました。そんなお正月の遊びには、邪気を祓い福を呼び込むなど、さまざまな願いが込められています。
「FUJIYAMA」公演の明治座劇場内は、随所で、実際に楽しく遊びながら歴史や由来が学べます。是非、当日はお早めにお越しください。

New Year is called "Oshogatsu" in Japanese. Oshogatsu is the most important among all the annual events and the family members and other relatives get together.
In Oshogatsu, Japanese children play traditional games and have fun with the toys exist from Edo era.
In those games and toys, wishes for a brighter new year and purifying the children are contained.
Meijiza invites you to feel and experience Oshogatsu at this performance Fujiyama. Don't miss anything !

劇場正面エントランスで皆様とお正月を祝います。

"Shishimai" (a dance with a lion's mask) walks and dances at the entrance to celebrate the New Year with us all.

江戸時代に隆盛した扇子を投げるお座敷遊び。劇場建物2階で体験出来ます。

You may experience "Tosenkyo", an indoor game of hitting a target with an open fan, which was very popular during the Edo era.

投扇興と同じエリアで、2000年に三代目を襲名した寄席紙切り芸の第一人者・林家正楽師匠の見事な技を、間近にお楽しみいただきます。（実演は開演前１３時半までのみ）

"Kamikiri" is one of the traditional Japanese performing arts, which shows the performance of cutting a piece of paper in some shape with a pair of scissors. Next to "Tosenkyo", you experience the show of the top class "Kamikiri" Performer Shoraku HAYASHIYA. This is really a rare chance to see him performing so close.（on the second floor, before the curtain, only until 13:30）

同じ2階には、お手玉、独楽、福笑いなど、江戸のおもちゃの実演販売ブースも登場。

On the same floor (the 2nd of the theatre building), there will be the toy shop which sells the Japanese traditional toys such as "Otedama"(juggling the two beanbag balls), "Koma"(spinning top) and "Fukuwarai"(game like pin the tail on the donkey). You can also try and play some toys and games there.

手作りの羽子板や江戸凧を、3階メインロビーに展示いたします。眺めているだけでも江戸情緒満喫です。

Beautifully handmade traditional "Hagoita"(battledores) and "Tako"(kites) exhibited in the lobby on the 3rd floor of the theatre building. You may feel and enjoy the atmosphere of Edo era by just looking at them.

東西の縁起の良いと言われる料理をふんだんに美しく盛り込んで、毎年、口の肥えた役者さんたちにもご満足頂いている「明治座特製おせち」。それと同じ味とクオリティーを、この公演のためだけのアレンジでお召し上がりいただきます。

We Japanese enjoy special dishes called OSECHI-RYORI (or simply OSECHI) prepared for the New Year's Holidays. Most dishes are cooked in order to be preserved for at least three days so women don't have to cook during that period.
Packed and artfully arranged in beautiful lacquered JUBAKO box, each food has a particular meaning. For example, Kuromame (cooked sweet black beans) mean health, prawns represent long life (picture to stoop with old age), Tazukuri (sweet fried sardines) is linked to a good harvest, Kazunoko (salted herring roe) to fertility.
It's said that yellow colored dishes and ingredients symbolize prosperity, also red/pink and white colored food, such as pink and white KAMABOKO slices (steamed fish paste) represent celebration.
For FUJIYAMA programme, we Meijiza offer the beautifully arranged special lunch and lunch box with those good variety of Osechi-dishes. You will appreciate to experience and taste the Japanese way of celebrating the New year for sure.

Since 1873, as the most historical theatre in Tokyo area, Meijiza has been giving plentiful spectacular Kabuki performances.
